The Evolution of the Hot Tub

The Evolution of the Hot Tub

Posted 11/24/2016

Since their invention, hot tubs have undergone major changes. As manufacturers find new ways to save you time and money and improve maintenance, they are able to truly create the ideal hot tub experience for you.

Among the innovations that provide the most benefits to consumers are insulation and self-cleaning features.

In this post, you'll learn just how far Hydropool hot tubs have come over the years because of these incredible technological advancements.

The Evolution of Insulation

Insulation is the one of the most remarkable innovations in the hot tub industry because of its ability to save consumers money and energy.

Just 25 years ago, insulation was practically non-existent. Not even foam insulation was an option at this time. In 1992, Hydropool began insulating hot tubs and pipes with foam insulation to make them more efficient. The method was effective, but not perfect, as the insulated models still lost substantial heat. It was also extremely difficult to access plumbing unless the pipes were unearthed: a process that often damaged both the insulation and structure of the hot tub.

By the turn of the 21st century, Hydropool had introduced the Hydrowise Thermal Shield. This new technology prevented plumbing leaks and reduced heat loss through gaps in panels. It also helped the entire system last longer. By allowing more air circulation, the motor could breathe, which prevented overheating and failing water pumps.

This technology is constantly being improved upon. Since 2005, Hydropool has employed Hydrowise Thermal Shield Technology. Not only does its polyfilm barrier support plumbing and create easier maintenance and service, but it is also highly efficient. The hot tub is heated by reusing waste heat from the motor, shell, and pipes. Its eco-heat exchange venting also reduces heat in summer and holds heat in during winter for maximum efficiency and temperature control.

Best of all, these efficient innovations have saved our customers plenty of money!

The First Self-Cleaning Hot Tub

Cleaning and maintaining a hot tub can be a lot of work. Hydropool wanted to save its customers time and energy so they had more time to do the things they loved. In response, they created the first self-cleaning hot tub.

In 1980, grate-style skimmers and gravity-style drains were commonly used in Hydropool's hot tubs. Five years later, this technology evolved as we implemented suction side filters and skimmers that offered both surface and deep skimming. This drastically improved the ease, effectiveness, and efficiency of skimming and saved customers money.

The introduction of high flow skimmers and pressure side filters in 1989 provided even better water filtration and prevented issues with pumps and heaters due to filter clogs. The new filtration system reduced odors and also made the hot tub more aesthetically pleasing as the filter could no longer be seen by bathers.

In 1993, Hydropool implemented the floor vacuum, which resulted in more efficient and effective cleaning while reducing required maintenance. Because of the vacuum's ability to extend deep into the bottom of the hot tub, water that could not previously be filtered could now be reached. Again, this innovation reduced maintenance even further, eliminating the need to manually bail water left in the bottom of the tub in order to drain it.

Through this series of technological innovations, the world's only self-cleaning hot tub came to exist. At present, the self-cleaning model provides superior filtration, filtering all of the water every 15 minutes. It can even skim the surface and vacuum the floor. This leaves you with clean, clear, safe water without too much work.

If you're ready to save time and money and spend less time maintaining your hot tub, look into our self-cleaning options.
