Save Money with an Energy-Efficient Hot Tub

Posted 3/2/2017

Choosing an energy efficient hot tub is one of the best ways to save money on your investment.  However, all hot tubs are not equal when it comes to energy efficiency, so it's important to know what to look for.

Below, you'll learn about the features that make a hot tub energy efficient so you can get the most energy savings possible.

Self-Cleaning Hot Tubs for Energy Efficiency

The faster your hot tub filters its water, the more energy efficient it is.  A good example is the Hydropool hot tub, which features filtering speeds of just 15 minutes for all of the water in your hot tub.  This makes it one of the most energy efficient hot tubs in the world.

Take Advantage of Heat Shield Hard Covers

The best covers retain a high level of heat, which saves huge amounts of energy.  When looking for a hot tub, search for a locking hard cover that is durable and retains heat while preventing cold from entering the hot tub.  Covers that conserve the most heat also feature tapered designs and insulated baffles around the folds.  All of these features will keep your hot tub's water hot for longer periods of time.

Pick a Insulated Thermal Shield Blanket

Hot tubs lose heat in many areas, including piping, cabinets, and floors.  The most energy-efficient hot tubs lock heat in.  For example, Hydropool's Triple Thermal Shield Blanket was engineered using NASA inspired by NASA, which allows it to reflect heat back into the hot tub.

Look for Energy Efficient Pumps

The pump in a hot tub can use a substantial amount of energy.  Ideally, try to find the hot tub with the highest flow rate and lowest energy output.  The most efficient pumps will increase your energy efficiency by more than 25% in comparison to other pumps.

Improve Efficiency with Adjustable Venting

As we've discussed in other sections, the most efficient hot tubs are able to reflect the pump's waste heat back into the cavity.  Vents are another good way to maximize energy efficiency all year long.  Hydropool's Triple Thermal Shield blanket and Hydrowise thermal vents are two good options for saving energy.

Choose CEC Regulations

When you're looking for the gold star in energy efficient hot tubs, California Energy Commission (CEC) approval is the best guideline.  CEC guidelines are strict, so if you choose a hot tub that is CEC approved, you'll know that it is the top of the line in energy efficiency.  As one of the first CEC approved hot tubs, Hydropool has been committed to offering outstanding energy efficiency for years, allowing users to run their hot tub at 100 degrees F for just a few cents per day.
