What are Garden Hot Tubs?

Posted 1/7/2019

If you are wondering what garden hot tubs are, they’re simply outdoor, self-contained portable spas. Outdoor hot tubs can be placed anywhere in your backyard provided that there is a flat, supportive surface but many people choose to place them in their garden for aesthetic purposes, hence the name garden hot tubs.

Having a garden hot tub is the ideal way to transform your backyard into the ultimate relaxation oasis. Nothing else can beat soaking in warm, bubbly water, surrounded by rich foliage and breathing in the fresh air. Garden hot tubs can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. Some people prefer their hot tub tucked into a simple backyard corner surrounded by a few shrubs for privacy and others enjoy taking a soak in a fully landscaped, elaborate garden environment featuring a diverse array of plants, brightly blooming flowers, and stylish accents.

If you have decided that you would like to get a hot tub for your garden but are not sure where to begin, here are three essential factors that you must consider.

Location

If you have a pre-existing garden in your yard, is there the perfect place for the hot tub to be located?  If you happen to have a flat space in the middle of your garden area where a concrete pad can simply be poured as a base to place your hot tub, consider yourself lucky! If not, you may need to clear an additional area, and have it leveled.

When considering location, you will need to be in relatively close proximity to an electrical hookup and a water supply. If your dream location for your hot tub is in a remote area of your yard, don’t worry, you will need to call a contractor and have the wiring extended. In most cases, as far as the water supply goes, as long as a garden hose can reach your hot tub so that it can be filled when needed is good.

If you are planning on building a structure for your hot tub, such as a gazebo to place it under, make sure to check with your municipality. You may require a permit or permission to build the structure.

Getting to Your Hot Tub

Location is one thing to consider but how you will get to your hot tub is another. People tend to use their hot tubs more often when they are located closer to their home. This makes it easier to jaunt back into your house if you forgot your water bottle or need to grab an extra towel.

One thing is for certain and that is making sure that you have a clear path getting to your hot tub. There are plenty of options for building a path and many that can completely complement or enhance the look of your landscaping. Even if you are just looking for a basic option, do make sure you have a proper path. Having bathers trek across the grass to get to your hot tub is problematic for two reasons. First, the grass can quickly get slippery from water overflow and bathers may accidentally slip and fall. Second, if people are walking across the grass barefoot and getting into your hot tub, it is more likely that blades of grass and other dirt will be tracked into your hot tub on their feet.

Surrounding Space

Whether you have found the perfect garden nook or spot near your home, ensuring that you also have enough space surrounding the hot tub is essential. Not only do you need enough space so that bathers can get around the tub, but you also need to have space to access the cabinet in case repairs or maintenance is needed. Also, think about where you will place your hot tub cover when it is not in use and how easily it will be to move on and off the tub. The last thing you want is a space that is too small and not having any place for some surrounding furniture for people to relax, keep a stack of dry towels and some drinks or refreshments. After all, a big part about having a garden hot tub is the whole feeling of being in your outdoor oasis, so you want to have your entire space set up to be comfortably enjoyed.
