How do Exercise Pools Work

How do Exercise Pools Work?

Posted 10/15/2019

Exercise pools or swim spas are the perfect way to get a challenging workout in the comfort of your own home. While they are often known for swimming, spa spas are truly all-in-one- aquatic training machines. To find out more about how these exercise pools work, keep reading below.

Swimming

One exercise that is packed with benefits and never seems to go out of style is swimming. Low impact, yet able to build muscle strength, endurance, increase cardiovascular fitness levels, and can even help reduce stress. Swimming has also been shown by numerous studies that it can help control blood sugar levels, lower bad cholesterol, and blood pressure.

Whether you just want to enjoy swimming recreationally or are a seasoned athlete, swimming in a swim spa offers even more benefits like being able to control the current and workout difficulty level.

Resistance Training

One of the best options for upper and lower body workouts is resistance training, but for many people, it can be difficult to find the time to get to the gym. Having a home swim spa exercise pool makes it easy to maintain your resistance training program at your convenience. The current in a swim spa can provide the same results as working out with weights but with less impact and joint stress. Using water instead of weights also helps prevent injuries and excessive pressure being placed on your joints. You can still control the difficulty of your resistance training sessions by adjusting the swim current level.

Core Exercises

Toning your midsection can be difficult, but not with a swim spa. Using the swim current, hold onto the side of the swim lane and perform crunches against the current. Kickboards and medicine balls can also be used to add resistance and variety to core exercises.

Jogging and Running

Did you know that you can use your swim spa to jog or run? You get to work out the same muscles as you do running on land but the water buoyancy eliminates the pounding and pressure placed on joints. Also, when you jog or run in your swim spa, the harder or faster you try to run, the greater the resistance is, which delivers even better results.

Glute Exercises

A popular swim spa accessory is the exercise bar which can be used for a number of exercises that target your glutes, such as kickbacks. To target your glutes, stand straight facing the bar and grab with both hands. Start by raising one leg as close to the surface as possible and hold for 10 seconds. Then lower your leg and repeat with the other for 2 or 3 rounds of 10 reps each.

No matter what your exercise routine is, using a swim spa can add a powerful edge to your fitness regime. By using the 5 training techniques mentioned above, you will be able to exceed your fitness goals in no time. Plus, when you own a swim spa, it makes it so much easier to be able to squeeze in your daily workout as you do not need to leave your home or follow a local gym schedule. With your own swim spa, you can exercise whenever you want!
