What is the Best Time of Year to Buy a Hot Tub?

Posted 1/24/2020

Congratulations! You’ve finally decided to take the plunge and buy a hot tub! We often hear the question from people who are in the market, “What is the best time of year to buy a hot tub?” It’s a valid query because hot tubs might seem to be on sale almost all the time. But really, the very best time to buy a hot tub is after you’ve done your research, have the money available to spend and are ready to go through the installation process. Beyond that we’ve come up with a few pointers that could help you get a good deal on your new purchase.

Do Your Research

There’s no doubt that a hot tub is a major life purchase. Plus, we’re absolutely sure it will change your life. But there can be a lot of variations in the makes and models on the market and you should have an idea of what you’re looking for before you start negotiating a price. Luckily the internet has made self-directed research a much easier proposition. Get online and start checking around the websites of reputable hot tub brands and learning about the styles and models available.

The Lowest Price Might Not Be the Best Price

You’ll soon learn that there are only a handful of major hot tub manufacturers throughout the world and you’ll likely come across these popular names over and over. There’s a reason for this. It’s because these manufacturers, like Hydropool, are known for quality merchandise and are sold by retailers whose reputations depend on the products they sell. You might be able to find no name hot tubs a whole lot cheaper but more often than not you get what you pay for in the hot tub world. A bargain price on an unknown brand often means a hot tub that stops working properly after a couple of years.

What About Accessories and Installation?

Although the hot tub will be the main star of the show, there are still a lot of accessories that will make your hot tubbing experience better, easier and more enjoyable. But the fact is that accessories will cost you extra money. A top of the line, properly fitted, well-insulated hot tub cover with a hydraulic lifting system can add 10% or more to your final bill. A decent sound system, some mood lighting and a cascading water feature will make things even more expensive. Installation, if it’s not included or done by an inexperienced contractor can cost you a fortune. But if you follow the market regularly, you’ll notice that various retailers sometimes offer certain accessories for free or include the installation costs. Being ready to jump on a promotion like this can save you big money. Understand what you want in your hot tub and then follow the market until your priorities are met.

Seasonal Turnovers, Floor Models and Tradeshows

Although new hot tub makes and models aren’t introduced as often as automobiles or fashion collections, new lines are typically introduced in the new year. This means the end of the year may be a good time to find a good deal where a retailer is trying to clear out space to make room for some newer models. That said, sales during times of seasonal turnover may be limited to the floor models that are left in the showroom. If you’re looking to order something more in tune with what you’re looking for you’ll likely have to pay full price. If you’re happy with what the retailer is trying to move, you may find an attractive price with some freebies thrown in. Another place where you might be able to find yourself a discount is at a tradeshow or exposition. Again, the deals will likely be limited to the floor models, but since the retailer would probably rather sell them than have to load them up and bring them back to the showroom, you may find yourself with some bargaining power. Making the effort to attend a tradeshow can pay off handsomely.
